Baby Constipated?

After a particularly long stay with my in-laws filled with lots of mac 'n cheese and bananas (A's favorites!), we noticed she just was not going number two. She's always been very regular so after a day or two we called the doctor.  They gave us very practical advice~ try foods that start with P: prunes, pears, pumpkin, peaches...

  • Offer small amounts of 100% juice~ apple, prune, pear. We always cut it with water.
  • For the time being, lessen dairy products like milk and cheese, and increase water.
  • High-fiber baby foods. If your baby is eating solid foods, try high-fiber baby foods — such as barley cereal and pureed pears or prunes. Avoid rice cereal. (Mayo Clinic)  Raspberries, strawberries, rye, green beans, whole apple, grounded whole wheat, walnuts peanuts, turnips and broccoli. By including lots of fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet you can get relief from the recurring problem of constipation. (OMT.com)

Sooooo funny that you posted this today - we were having the same problem! My little man just started eating thicker mixtures, and we just started adding proteins to his meals. As a result, he's been skipping days going number 2, and lo and behold, give that boy some prunes and he's all better! ;) Thanks for the cool tip about the foods that start with P!
