I think he needs to flip-flop wooden spoons and pestle and mortar. I have both. I use my spoons for almost every meal I cook, but I have used my pestle and mortar maybe one time is the past four years. I definitely don't feel it's an essential item in my kitchen. Otherwise, I think this list is a pretty good starting point for new home chefs.
Do you have a bench scraper? I can't live without mine! Great for cutting bar cookies, picking up chopped veggies, and cleaning up the flour after making pie crust. It's a must have in my kitchen!
You know what? I do have one! But~ I never use it. But, I should! Thanks for the reminder!
